Ballyclare congregation began in 1928 as a “church in the house”, meeting in different homes and eventually moving to the Old Collegiate School that became the regular meeting place for the next seven years. The Registry of Deeds started in 1708.

The Presbyterian population in Ballylinny attended church in Ballyclare and church registers begin for both baptisms and marriages in 1837.

A secession in Ballyclare in 1864 under the auspices of the Northern Presbytery of Antrim was large enough for them to develop a fairly impressive church on the other side of town to the original Ballyclare meeting-house.

Originating out of Ballyclare (Non Subscribing) Presbyterian Church, founded around 1653, the congregation in Ballyeaston grew to cover a large area including the Glenwherry area where the people had been advised by Antrim Presbytery in 1672 to join themselves to some congregation, initially Ballyclare.
